Dr.Jeff McConihay
Guest Speaker
Dr. McConihay is a psychologist licensed in Alabama. He currently works as a psychologist with the government. He has advanced training in couples treatment that includes the completion of Levels 1 -3 of Gottman Method therapy. He has worked for the government both as an active-duty officer and civil service employee for 27 years. He has been married for 30 years and has five children and ten grandchildren. He believes a good friendship is foundational to a good marriage and works enthusiastically to help couples restore connection, communication, and improve their ability to manage conflict.
Session Breakdown
1
Session One:
Connection
All about attachment theory and using attachment theory to address connection and conflict management – This is from the work of Sue Johnson and Emotion Focused Therapy

Session Two:
Communication
Using the work of John Gottman and the Love Language test to learn about communication and expressing needs.

Session Three:
Conflict Management
Learn about solvable and unsolvable problems, boundaries and compromise.
These will be three really jam packed sessions! Participants will leave knowing their attachment style, love language, improved communication skills, two approaches to conflict and two methods of resolving conflict. Couples will not only have a fun and enriching experience together but will walk away with many practical tools to use on a daily basis.

Thousand Oaks Bible Church
Thousand Oaks Bible Church is our host home for this retreat! It is a smaller church located on Thousand Oaks that offers a 10:30 AM Sunday morning service as well as a Mothers Day Out program, AWANAS and Wednesday night services. The church has a three-fold mission; Discover who I am and the plans God has for me. Develop into the person that God has created me to be. Display the change God has made in my life and live out what I believe

What about lunch?
​
There will be drinks and light snacks available as well as an option for catered lunch. The adult lunch will be deli style sandwiches and the kid lunch will be chicken tenders and fries. There are also many fast food and take out options near the church.
What is the fee and what does it cover?
​
There will be a $35 fee per couple. There is no extra charge for lunch or for childcare.
What about childcare?
​
Childcare will be available in the church's Sunday school rooms. There will be age appropriate snacks available as well as games and entertainment. All child care volunteers will be background checked and confirmed by the church.
